Castaways Beach Resort is a direct oceanfront Condo-Hotel in Daytona Beach Shores. One of 14 condo-hotels on the Beach. The resort was built in 1960, but was bought in 1997 by developer W.L. Summers and Associates, remodeled and converted to condo-hotel, and has recently undergone renovations to the roof and balconies.
Castaways Beach Resort offers 156 individually owned and decorated studio rooms and suites. Amenities include oceanfront pool, exercise room, a children’s playground.
Standard and deluxe rooms. Deluxe have 2-burner stoves. Excellent views from, practically, all units, however the balconies are not private. You can stay on your balcony and see everybody else on their balconies. Not really a problem, but if a private balcony is high on your list, then you should know.
Association Dues are $294 a month for a studio unit, the lowest in the area. Pets used to be allowed for the owners, but this is not the rule, but, as far as I know, lack of enforcement of No Pets policy, stated in the Condo Docs.

Castaways Beach Resort went through a fight with the city when they attempted to declare it a residential condominium. There was a heated fight among the owners as there were quite a few owners opposing the move, and then the City of Daytona Beach Shores stepped in and set the resort straight. At first it sounded really dramatic, as people, that used units as primary residence were told they would have to leave, but it ended up with them losing the right to Homestead, as this is what the City controls, but many still live there full time.
Castaways does not have operating Front Desk at night. They are open from 8 AM to 9PM monday thru Friday to 5PM on weekends.
